Handgun Fundamentals is designed for the student who has minimal or no experience with firearms. It is also useful for those who have some experience but are unsure of their technique or their knowledge of guns and gun safety.
This eight-hour course begins in the classroom, where students will learn about the function of both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, as well as an overview of the different types of ammunition and how they work. Range rules, shooting basics, and the guidelines for the safe handling of firearms will be thoroughly covered. After the classroom portion, students will head to the range for live-fire exercises. There will be the opportunity to use several different revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, and both bench-rest and standing shooting positions will be taught. After the range time is completed, students will be shown the basics of cleaning and maintaining a firearm. There will be plenty of time for questions, and students will also learn how to locate local opportunities for shooting development.
We provide .22 calibre firearms and ammunition for the course. Students who do not own hearing and eye protection may also borrow that equipment at the range. If time allows, some larger calibre firearms will be available for the students to try. Our goal as instructors is to make sure every student leaves with the ability and knowledge to safely operate a handgun, and has learned those skills in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Classroom is at 29 Pleasant Street in Claremont, New Hampshire. All-day parking is available nearby at 30 Franklin Street and 138 Broad Street in Claremont. Students should arrive for registration between 7:30 and 7:45 AM, and instruction will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Coffee and tea will be available during the classroom time, and a light meal will be provided before driving to the range.
Students must provide a copy of their valid conceal carry permit. If you do not have a permit, a background check must be obtained at least two weeks before the course date. Background checks are an additional $30, paid in advance.
